Understanding the Development Process

Overview

On completing the course, the learners will have a basic understanding of the process and the key risk areas.

This course is suitable for Development and Regeneration staff who are new to the discipline, staff from other teams within Registered Providers who are drafted into Development project teams, senior managers and Board members who wish to have a high-level understanding of the process, some legislation and key risks.

Course Plan

Covering the following areas:

  1. Context and background of property development and project management
  2. Site identification
  3. Feasibility study
  4. Purchase and conveyancing
  5. Managing the design process
  6. The planning system
  7. Procurement
  8. Building contract issues
  9. Snagging, practical completion, handover and defects

Format

Duration: 2 days

Intensive interactive learning with exercises.

Suggested preparation

A comprehensive handout is provided with this course. While not essential, it is helpful to scan this before the course. Please come armed with a list of questions you have, jargon you have heard and terms used that you don’t understand, so that we can make sure you go away feeling more prepared for your role.  There are no stupid questions.
